Screens for iOS is available on the App Store. iOS 14 or later is required.
* Custom Connections
Prior to the latest versions, Screens would always update saved connections with the latest information from Screens Connect. While this made sure that the connection information was up to date, the drawback was that custom connections (created by clicking on the Custom… button and not selecting an item from the Nearby and Remote Computers list), could overwrite items that were intended to be left alone.
The latest versions now add a custom flag to custom connections so Screens now knows not to update those with the latest information from Screens Connect.
This change will not affect your currently saved items.
If you have custom items and want the new behavior, make sure to update both Screens for Mac and iOS for that new feature to take effect. You will also need to re-create those custom connections as they need the new flag added in the latest Screens versions.
Screens Connect and macOS 12 Monterey
We reported a few weeks ago that macOS 12 has some issues with an API Screens Connect has been relying on for over 10 years, which is used to open a port on your router to make your Mac reachable remotely.
While Apple told us that this should be fixed by the time Monterey ships but unfortunately it has not.
The good news is that we came up with a solution so we no longer rely on that broken API.
Please make sure that you update Screens Connect to version 4.11 as soon as you upgrade to macOS 12 Monterey. You can do so via the Screens Connect menu bar icon > Check for updates…
Screens Connect can also be downloaded here.
Screens Express 1.4
Screens Express relied on the same API as Screens Connect so make sure to update to version 1.4 as soon as you upgrade to macOS 12 Monterey.
You can update Screens Express via the Screens Express menu > Check for updates… or download it here.
