Screens Turns 15 🎉

December 12, 2025

It’s hard to believe, but Screens just turned 15.

What began in 2010 as a simple way to access a computer remotely has grown into a mature, full-featured remote desktop solution used every day on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro. Over the years, Screens has adapted to new platforms, new technologies, and constantly evolving user needs — and reaching this milestone wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible community behind it.

A Defining Moment in 2023

In 2023, Screens went through one of the most important transitions in its history: the move to a subscription-based model.

We knew this change would not be easy, and we understood the concerns that often come with subscriptions. What we didn’t fully anticipate was just how positive and supportive the response would be. That shift has given us the stability and resources needed to focus on what matters most: continuously improving Screens.

Subscriptions allow us to invest in long-term development, adapt quickly to platform changes, improve performance and reliability, and provide ongoing support. Thanks to this model, Screens is not just maintained — it’s actively evolving.

A Heartfelt Thank You

Whether you’ve been using Screens since the early days or joined us more recently, we want to say thank you.

Your feedback and continued support make it possible for us to keep building and improving Screens year after year. Screens is what it is today because of its users.

Highlights from 2025

This past year has been particularly busy, with several major improvements focused on usability, performance, and platform integration.

In Screens 5.5, we introduced the Carousel toolbar on iPhone and iPad, designed with Apple Pencil use in mind. It makes common actions easier and faster to access while keeping the interface clean and unobtrusive, and it also came with meaningful improvements to Apple Pencil interactions overall.

With Screens 5.6, we brought file transfers to iPhone, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro, making it easy to move files between your device and Mac without leaving Screens.

And in Screens 5.7, we added support for OS 26 and Apple’s new Liquid Glass design, ensuring Screens feels right at home on the latest versions of Apple’s platforms.

Looking Ahead to 2026

While celebrating 15 years is a big moment, we’re very much focused on what’s next.

Early in 2026, Screens 5.8 will introduce fully customizable toolbars on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro. This update will give users more control over their workflow by letting them tailor the interface to their specific needs.

Further down the road, Screens 5.9 will add RDP support, a major feature currently in active development. This is becoming increasingly important as many modern Linux distributions move away from VNC, and it will also significantly improve the experience when connecting to Windows PCs.

Thank You, and Happy Holidays

Fifteen years is a milestone we’re incredibly proud of — and it’s only possible because of your support.

Thank you for being part of the Screens journey. We wish you happy holidays, and we’re excited to continue building what comes next together.
